The United States Department of Education provides 8% of the revenue for public schools. The cost benefit analysis of complying with federal regulations attached thereto disproportionately gives local authority to the federal government.
Furthermore the states are not subjects of the federal government to dictate the communal standards to all states. Florida and every other state is uniquely situated to develop their own education policies without the federal government directing us to its communal one state desires.
We are the United States not enclaves of the federal government.
The amount of funding of 8% does not even come close to the regulatory burdens that is placed on the State of Florida. In addition the direction of the federal government to eliminate the unique character of the states through funding strings is not worth the costs no matter how much funding it returns.
Therefore we the undersigned petition to the Florida Governor and Florida Secretary of Education to direct its agencies to do a cost analysis of the funding received vs. the administration of the fund regulations To begin the process of rejecting United States Department of Education funds to allow Floridians to direct its education policy completely and without threat to abhorrent policies of the United States Department of Education.
