Petition for the permanent and involuntary resignation of Briann Perkins from Catholic of Pointe Coupee School

Dear Bishop Duca,
I am writing as a concerned Catholic parent (or member of the faithful) regarding Catholic of Pointe Coupee in New Roads, Louisiana. I understand the school has recently hired an individual for a position working with young children, including incoming students, who publicly identifies as a "queer ally" or "pride ally" on social media, including a Facebook post promoting Pride-related themes.

As faithful Catholics, we look to our schools to form children in the fullness of the Catholic faith, consistent with the teachings of the Church. The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms the dignity of every person while clearly teaching that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered and that marriage and sexual relations are reserved for one man and one woman in holy matrimony (see CCC 2357-2359, 2360-2367). Public promotion of "Pride" ideologies or "queer" affirmation often contradicts these teachings by normalizing behaviors and lifestyles the Church calls us to address with chastity, truth, and charity.
Parents entrust their children to Catholic schools expecting an environment that reinforces, rather than undermines, the faith taught at home and in the parish. Hiring individuals who publicly advocate positions contrary to Church doctrine on human sexuality, marriage, and gender creates scandal and confusion, especially for impressionable young children in kindergarten. This risks diluting the school's Catholic identity and mission.

I respectfully urge Your Excellency to investigate this hiring decision, ensure that all faculty and staff at Catholic of Pointe Coupee uphold Catholic moral teachings in both their professional and public lives (including social media), and reaffirm the diocese's commitment to authentic Catholic education. Many families in Pointe Coupee and surrounding areas desire a school that fully embodies the Church's vision for education.

Thank you for your pastoral leadership and attention to this important matter. I pray for your continued guidance of the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
