Fireworks are a part of American culture, and during holidays like the 4th of July or New Year's I feel like I can't celebrate them because I live in IL. Everybody loves fireworks but not everyone wants to admire them from a mile away through town-funded firework shows. A car is 250,000 times more likely to kill someone than a firework, yet those who defend laws against fireworks make it seem as if these fun little explosion-boxes are comparable to the likes of 2-ton death machines. Legalizing fireworks in Illinois will also be beneficial for the government as previously proven when Indiana legalized fireworks. Indiana acquired an extra $2.5 million each year in tax money and used it for fire department training. Point in case, firework laws are unnecessary and will not prevent injury or death by fireworks. Along with the fact that are worse than fireworks that are legal in Illinois such as assault weapons and marijuana which is a hypocritical and California of all places allows fireworks despite the state being so prone to wildfires. Not to mention New Jersey legalized fireworks after years of not allowing them. Also firework shops provide money to local economies and firework shops can make six figures a year but Illinois still bans consumer fireworks despite that. Not to mention the Illinois legal fireworks aren't that good because all they do is set off smoke that smells like rotten eggs and they aren't even available year round and they're only available seasonally which just makes me angry. Take Indiana, for example, where the legalization of consumer fireworks led to an annual increase of $2.5 million in tax revenue. These funds were allocated towards crucial services such as fire department training, enhancing public safety without burdening taxpayers. By legalizing fireworks, Illinois has the potential to tap into similar economic benefits, providing much-needed revenue for essential services and contributing to local economies. In conclusion, the legalization of fireworks in Illinois is not only a matter of personal freedom but also an opportunity to stimulate economic growth, promote safety, and enhance community well-being. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a reconsideration of outdated laws and the adoption of regulations that reflect the realities and benefits of legalizing fireworks in Illinois. Let's ignite the spark of change and bring the joy of fireworks back to Illinois residents.
so I ask of you governor J.B Pritzker, illinois state fire marshall chief James A Rivera to legalize consumer fireworks in Illinois once and for all
