Stand with Dr. Wendler and WTAMU to ban drag shows on campus

Thank you so much President Dr. Walter Wendler on making the stand to not allow a drag show to take place on the WTAMU campus.

With minors and a child care center on campus, you've certainly made a GREAT call to not have a Drag Show at your university. Bravo and God Speed. "Character Still Counts" Academic Excellence demands focus. My daughter is one of your students.

Dr. Wendler is wrong to suppress this event. The drag show is in support of the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization for LGBT youth and adults. Furthermore, Dr. Wendler is suppressing the constitutional right of freedom of expression. Just because someone doesn't approve of something does not give someone else the right to suppress it. Conservatives are always talking about keeping government out of our lives, yet they support laws meant to denigrate and eliminate people with whom they disagree. I graduated summa cum laude, with a 4.0, from WTA&MU and I am ashamed of the president and university. I hope this goes to court because the university will lose. Conservatives need to get over it and find something worthwhile to support.

In reply to the last comment, a person does not have a constitutional right to perform on a university campus whatever type of show they personally proclaim to be art. The campus has a legal right and responsibility to protect the student body from sexism, racism, and discrimination, and to provide a safe and respectful environment for learning. Drag shows are inherently sexist snd misogynistic, involving men dressing as women, exaggerating female characteristics to the absurd for comedy and entertainment. It would indeed be no different if this was a theater troupe wanting to perform wearing Blackface and exaggerating characteristics of Black people for entertainment. Women and Blacks share a similar history, both having been prevented from appearing in art in various times in history. The comparison to Blackface is valid and poignant. The argument being used by some in the media that drag is not misogynistic because children and women are involved is even more concerning. Children are being used in an attempt to legitimize drag, which is abusive. Drag shows are no place for children and could lead to emotional trauma for the children in the future, which brings me back to the charity for suicide prevention. The best way to prevent suicide is to protect individuals from engaging in acts that cause trauma, harm others and degrade their sense of self worth—hence fewer drag shows, less promotion of extreme, destructive and risky behavior, and a greater focus on values and family.

Nothing is stopping this community from opening a private over 21 adult club for people who wish to engage in this type entertainment. There are no public stripper shows on campus to my knowledge, until those are allowed, these cannot be allowed either.

what about the colleges that cancel conservative and christian speakers on their campus! No one uses the free speech card until its the other way around...come on...yall are out numbered here...and if you dont like it then don't go here or send your kid here ...there are more liberal universities that allow this all over the state...so leave or go there...and if you don't have a kid in college here ...if you are't paying the tuition then shut up ...it doesn't effect you or concern you...I do have a kid going here...and the only reason we will pay for her to go there again next year is because of this President and him sticking up for what is right...

We support you, Dr Wendler, for your stance against this inappropriate behavior , disguised as protecting children from suicide tendencies. To the contrary , these inappropriate actions by adults, who are pushing their lifestyle of LGBTQ on those around them in public, do more to confuse these young people regarding their God-given gender identity.

To further comment, it is a balancing act of First Amendment rights and the goal and mission of public universities to provide an education in a safe, productive and respectful environment. Codes of conduct are necessary to maintain order and protect the student body against offenses, lewd conduct and disruption. This group is historically focused on all of the above with the stated intent of causing disruption while engaging in lewd, mocking and hyper-sexualized behavior, very offensive to many. They promote others to engage in the same with an apparent insatiable drive to rid society of moral limitations. In addition, they actively recruit children. For instance, they have announced a 5000-egg Easter egg hunt in city of Canyon park next week. How many pedophiles are participating and using drag as cover? Why the drive to attract children? The courts must uphold a public university’s right to limit and expel this conduct or public universities will become hijacked snd exploited public forums that are unsafe and undesirable for education and student populations.

The LGBT has grown big and unhinged. They are becoming a cult worst than anything we've ever seen. Please stand firm against all these insanity. We cannot let our country fall. Who would've thought our country would fall not by military might but by men in women's dresses.

Drag show isn't about free speech. It is inherently sexualized lap and pole dancing basically. All these college kids who grew up in government schools have been subjected to rainbow pride since grade school....no wonder there is actually support for this absurd trash pit of grown men prancing around dressed as women...twerking, and butt licking. What could Possibly be the Purpose of such a Perverted “show” ? The Promoters of this Perversion, should be charged with Child Endangerment , at the least.
