My 5 year old was asked what her "preferred gender" when signing her up for kindergarten this year. The majority of her kindergarten doors had pride flags with words "safe space" on the front door at back to school night. She is too young to be exposed to the complex ideas behind symbols of social or political movements. Schools are not the place to
It is not a teachers place to make their classrooms a platform display symbols to desplay their political or social standing. A neutral classroom is the best and safest choice for elementary students because children are suseptable to indoctrinated and can be easily conditioned to respond favorably to social or political ideas which they cannot comprehend completly. Neutral classrooms will foster a rigorous learning environment where teachers and students are laser focused on the curriculum. Do not get trapped into thinking that the only way to create a “safe- space” in school is by advertising the symbols of evolving social groups. Safe space is created by healthy positive interpersonal connections, not printed signs hanging on a door or wall.
